Structural characterization and electrochemical hydrogen storage properties of Ti2LxZrxNi (x [ 0, 0.1, 0.2) alloys prepared by mechanical alloying

2013

International audience; Nominal Ti2Ni was synthesized under argon atmosphere at room temperature using a planetary high-energy ball mill. The effect of milling time and Zr substitution for Ti on the microstructure was characterized by XRD, SEM and TEM, and the discharge capacities of Ti2xZrxNi (x 1/4 0, 0.1, 0.2) were examined by electrochemical measurements at galvanostatic conditions. XRD analysis shows that amorphous phase of Ti2Ni can be elaborated by 60 h of milling, whereas Zr substitution hinders amorphization process of the system. The products of ball milling nominal Ti2xZrxNi (x 1/4 0.1, 0.2) were austenitic (Ti, Zr)Ni and partly TiO, despite the fact that the operation was carrie…

Measurements on partial discharge in on‐site operating power transformer: a case study

2018

This study presents the case study of a substation in-service power transformer referred to the on-site partial discharge (PD) detection and evaluation methods. An original methodology for simultaneous application of three methods is proposed: electrical, acoustic and ultra-high frequency. Transformer is powered by the power grid and no external generator is required according to the proposed methodology. Furthermore, several possibilities of applying these concurrent measurements and benefits of such solution in terms of result interpretation, interference resistance and on-site measurement applicability are indicated. The proposed methodology allows for a fast, accurate and secure PD diag…

Maximum Torque Per Ampere control algorithm for low saliency ratio interior permanent magnet synchronous motors

2017

This paper presents an investigation on the comparison between the Maximum Torque Per Ampere (MTPA) and the Field Orientation Control (FOC) algorithms for interior permanent magnet synchronous machines (IPMSMs). In particular, this study was carried out on a small-power IPMSM with low salience ratio. Both control algorithms have been implemented in the Matlab/Simulink environment, obtaining promising results.

Pulsed Electro-Acoustic Method for specimens and cables employed in HVDC systems: Some feasibility considerations

2018

Recent experiments on the use of the PEA method for testing dielectric materials in specimens and comparison with a detailed model provide an insight of the phenomenon and suggest the need of adopting similar models also for cables. What is said is even more important considering the possible future adoption of the PEA methodology to test DC cables for Pre-Qualification and Type Tests. The use of an accurate model of the PEA cell used for testing specimens and related experiments prove that the thickness of the different parts composing the PEA setup is a basic element for providing accurate charge reading and interpretation of the phenomenon. Both simulation and experimental results, carri…

High-Power Multicarrier Generation for RF Breakdown Testing

2017

Testing of satellite components for high RF power breakdown effects, such as multipactor and corona or passive-intermodulation, is a topic of growing interest in the aerospaceindustry. Switching fromthe classical single carrier approach to the more realisticmulticarrier scenario is very challenging from the experimental point of view. Themulticarrier signals, amplifiedby several RF power amplifiers, need to have controlled phase, amplitude, and frequency in each carrier. Fine tuning of the signal generator phases is required in order to compensate the phase drift occurring in the active elements of the test bed. This paper presents an efficient and low-cost technique to generate multicarrie…

Determination of Core Size Dependency on the EMI Suppression in Cable Ferrites

2020

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) engineering should be approached via the systems approach, considering EMC throughout the design to anticipate possible electromagnetic interferences (EMI) problems. Nevertheless, an EMI source may appear when the designed device is supplied via an external power system or it is connected to another device to communicate to it. In these both cases, the cables or interfaces that interconnect the systems could represent the EMI source. Thereby, one of the most common techniques for reducing EMI in cables is the application of an EMI suppressor such as sleeve ferrite cores to them. The advantage of this solution is that it does not involve redesign the elect…

Space charge accumulation in undersea HVDC cables as function of heat exchange conditions at the boundaries – water-air interface

2020

Transmission lines with undersea HVDC cables are an interesting technological solution for the supply of electrical energy to islands. The accumulation of space charge inside the dielectric layer of a HVDC cable is one of the most important element to consider in its design and during operation. The formation of space charge is due to various factors including the high dependence on the temperature of the electrical conductivity of the insulation and the establishment of a thermal gradient under load conditions. This research is focused on the space charge accumulation phenomenon around a section of a HVDC cable half dipped in water and half in air. Due to the high difference in thermal con…

Influence of magnetization on the applied magnetic field in various AMR regenerators

2017

International audience; The aim of this work is to assess the influence of a magnetic sample on the applied magnetic field inside the air gap of a magnetic circuit. Different magnetic sources including an electromagnet, a permanent magnet in a soft ferromagnetic toroidal yoke, as well as 2D and 3D Halbach cylinders are considered, using a numerical model. Gadolinium is chosen as magnetic material for the sample, due to its strong magnetocaloric properties and its wide use in magnetic refrigeration prototypes. We find that using uniform theoretical demagnetizing factors for cylinders or spheres results in a deviation of less than 2% in the calculation of internal magnetic fields at temperatu…

Power efficiency improvements with the radio frequency H− ion source

2016

CW 13.56 MHz radio frequency-driven H(-) ion source is under development at the University of Jyväskylä for replacing an existing filament-driven ion source at the MCC30/15 cyclotron. Previously, production of 1 mA H(-) beam, which is the target intensity of the ion source, has been reported at 3 kW of RF power. The original ion source front plate with an adjustable electromagnet based filter field has been replaced with a new front plate with permanent magnet filter field. The new structure is more open and enables a higher flux of ro-vibrationally excited molecules towards the plasma electrode and provides a better control of the potential near the extraction due to a stronger separation …
